Highlights from Comic-Con
The immensely large events of Comic-Con International: San Diego came to a close yesterday, and we now have a wealth of new information about a number of different topics. I thought I would touch on a few of those topics tonight, and possibly share some news coming out of the Con.
Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert on Batman: Gaiman and Kubert will work on a story called, “Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?” The title of the story is an obvious nod to Alan Moore’s “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow” from 1986. That story took place right before John Byrne re-launched the Superman title. From the sound of it, this Batman story might be just as big.
Flash:Rebirth: Geoff Johns, Ethan Van Sciver, and Barry Allen. To say the least, those first two people are HUGE fans of the Barry Allen/Flash character, and after the first of the year they will be teaming up to tell the story of how Barry Allen finds his way in a world that has continued on without him for 20 years. Basically my only knowledge of Barry Allen is what I’ve seen in the New Frontier movie, so I’m excited to see what Johns and Van Sciver do to make me really care about the character.
Brad Meltzer’s Final Crisis tie-in: What would you do and say to the people around you if you were certain that death would come the next day? Meltzer, who I love simply because he gave DC fans the wonderful Identity Crisis, is going to answer that question. He’s writing a Final Crisis tie-in, entitled Last Will and Testament, which puts our heroes together–after evil wins–and makes them contemplate how they will say goodbye. I don’t know about anyone else, but this is a must on my Final Crisis checklist.
Geoff Johns to write an episode of Smallville: People who watch Smallville but don’t read comics won’t understand how monumental and exciting this fact is, but those who are familiar with both are probably jumping for joy, like I am. Clark Kent, meet the Legion of Super-Heroes. Yes, they’re going to be from the future. Yes, they’re going to have flight rings. And yes, they’re going to be the “real” Legion. Oh, and they really will be from the future, just like the Legion from the comics. I like it already.
There’s so much more to discuss, but I’ve already worked a full day. And if I spew out all the information now, I won’t have anything to discuss in the next couple days.
