I’m not dead

Published by joanne1938 at 2:26 pm under Non-Comic Discussion Edit This

It’s been a couple days since I’ve updated the blog, so I thought I would just give a run-down of what’s been happening in my world the last couple days.

Friday, the first day of August, was crazy and mostly a blur to me. I worked 8 hours that day–a split shift that didn’t end until about 2 a.m. Saturday morning. We had a midnight release party at the bookstore for Stephenie Meyer’s Breaking Dawn, and I was in charge of the games for the event. I stayed with the manager to close the store, and then had to resist the very strong temptation to start reading my own copy of the book when I got home.

Yes, this comic book fan is also a big fan of the Twilight Saga. With only about six hours of sleep, I got up yesterday and basically spent all day reading until it was time to go back to work last night. As it stands right now, I still have about 250 pages left to read. But it’s also amazing, surprising, and everything a book nerd comes to expect from the last book in a series.

And so that I can relate this post to comics, I will say this: Will someone please, please, please, turn this series into a comic? I’m begging here. Yes, it has it’s moments of mushy romance (which I admittedly actually enjoy), but there’s just as much intrigue, action, and adventure. I know it wouldn’t be the first vampire novel to be made into a comic book, as I’ve recently seen that Marvel has started doing Anita Blake novels, written by Lauren K. Hamilton. So, I guess, there’s already a precedent set. And Stephenie Meyer has always said that she was a fan of comic books, a fact that can be seen by the references she makes to them in her books. She’d probably be completely flabbergasted if someone did it right, and truly honored as well.

So that’s my pitch for today. I promise to get back to the comic book talk very shortly. Hang in there.

The Anita Blake series should have started out as a comic book. Hamilton just isn’t that great of a writer.
