Comic Genius

According to a Newsarama article from earlier in the week, Warner Brothers and DC are finally ready to set up a strategic plan to translate their comic book superheroes to the big screen.

This decision has made many DC fans ecstatic, including myself. I mean, how many times does Marvel have to run circles around DC before they start to realize how much money they could make off their comic book heroes? Let’s count: 3 X-Men movies, 3 Spider-Man movies, 2 different Incredible Hulk movies, 2 Fantastic Four movies, Ghost Rider, Iron Man, and an upcoming Captain America movie–not to mention the implied Avenger movie on its way in the near future.

The count for DC? Batman is truly king right now, especially with The Dark Knight on its way this Friday, but somehow 70 years of stories doesn’t translate into anyone in Hollywood being able to come up with another Superman movie anytime in the near future. DC is ruling the world when it comes to animated movies, but they won’t make anywhere near the dough they will with a live-action movie that has widespread attention like Batman is getting right now. A Green Lantern movie has been gaining in buzz over the last month or so, but I honestly hope that they go for the Hal Jordan version as opposed to the John Stewart Lantern that was supposed to be part of a Justice League project that now appears to be dead in the water.

I really do hope that they get their act together and give us some good superhero movies in the near future. They have so many options beyond the main three that everyone automatically think of when they think DC that it’s not even funny.
