In my other life…

I don’t just read comic books. In fact, I’ve a very avid reader of all kinds of books. I read everything from Christopher Moore, to young adult fiction, to Jodi Picoult. And because I got to have a geek out moment about one of the books I read (and love) being turned into a movie, I feel like it’s time to step away from the comics for a day.

So here’s my confession: I’m in love with the Twilight series. It’s young adult and it’s about vampires–and later werewolves–but I’m totally in love with it. I have no choice but to laugh about it because I remember seeing students toting this book around school over a year ago, but never thought anything of it. I bought the first book last summer, as well, but for some reason never read it. It wasn’t until about a month ago that I finally picked it up in an effort to see what all the fuss was about.

Probably the best thing about this series is that Stephenie Meyer’s vampires are like nothing the literary world has ever seen before. Vampires in the past have been crazy, human eating creatures who can’t go out in the sun and don’t like garlic and crosses much. These vampires, through super-human feats, have even sworn off feeding on humans, making them vegan vampires of sorts. Now, how can someone not be intrigued by such a thing?

I read all three books in two weeks, and now I’m on pins and needles waiting for the fourth and final book in the series to be released on August 2nd. In the meantime, I find myself re-reading the series and picking up on some of the subtleties that I might have missed the first time around. It’s going to be a long summer.
