Comic Genius

I got to thinking earlier about all the books I want to read, but can’t because I don’t have the funds, they haven’t been released yet, or I just plain don’t have the time. So I decided to make a list of them here, not only for the purpose of having it written down somewhere, but also having the chance for people to give their own suggestions for books I should read.

Queen and Country
I’ve spoken of this before, but I think it’s worth repeating. The fact that it’s Greg Rucka is only the beginning. I’ve heard Blair Butler recommend this series on the Fresh Ink podcast numerous times, and Rucka’s spy thriller sounds like something I could enjoy.

Gotham Central
Once again, I’m working on my healthy obsession with Greg Rucka’s writing. I already have volume two of the series in paperback, but this summer DC is releasing the five volumes of the series in hardcover and I think those would be nice to have. I think it would also be good to read the complete story, even though I already know most of the major plot points.

Countdown to Final Crisis
Please withhold your gasps of horror. I completely understand that Countdown was disliked by many comic book fans, but I’m one of those people who need to know the whole story. I really only started reading the weekly issues of Countdown toward the end, mostly because I was just starting to read floppies to begin with, but also because I knew that I planned to read Final Crisis and I wanted to know what I was dealing with going into DC’s big summer event.

I’m sure there are more books that I would like to read, but right now I’m unable to think of them. I would also like to read some good Flash stories, and maybe even get into some Birds of Prey, so if anyone out there reading this would like to recommend some good starters for those books, I’d really appreciate it.
